COL Group, Virtue Asia and V47 Entertainment have unveiled Inside Microdramas, billed as the first upfront event built around microdramas and the broader vertical entertainment business.

The event will take place in Singapore on Oct. 27.

The initiative is expected to draw senior executives from entertainment, advertising, tech, platforms and consumer brands.

Inside Microdramas draws a distinction between microdrama, defined as a specific short-form, serialized storytelling format, and vertical entertainment, a broader term spanning scripted series, reality and factual programming, creator-driven content, interactive narratives, commerce tie-ins and branded IP, all shaped for how audiences watch on phones.

“Microdramas are not the entire story. They are the first signal of a much bigger shift in how entertainment is created, distributed, funded and consumed,” said Timothy Oh, general manager, international, at COL Group. “Inside Microdramas is designed to move the conversation beyond the format itself and explore the wider vertical entertainment economy emerging around it. It will also give brands the opportunity to participate much earlier, not simply as advertisers, but as partners in building the next generation of entertainment IP.”

“The next evolution of branded entertainment will not come from placing brands into stories after they have already been developed. It will come from bringing brands, creators and producers together at the very beginning,” said David Webster, chair of V47 Entertainment. “This upfront creates a marketplace for that collaboration, where original ideas can find the right partners, funding and distribution to become entertainment audiences genuinely choose to watch.”

Organized around the theme Inside the Business, Culture and Future of Entertainment’s Fastest-Growing Format, the program mixes panel discussions, brand viewpoints, cross-sector debate, previews of upcoming projects and dedicated one-on-one partnership meetings.

COL Group will open with a session titled The New Rules of Attention, examining why microdramas are pushing studios, platforms and creators toward new thinking on how stories get made, distributed and watched as mobile becomes the primary screen. Virtue Asia will present Why Brands Need Entertainment, Not More Content, exploring how brands can move from advertising around culture to actively creating the stories and characters audiences choose to follow. V47 Entertainment will host a cross-industry panel, Are Brands Becoming the New Studios?, bringing together brands, platforms, production and entertainment representatives to examine new funding and distribution economics.

The event’s centerpiece, First Look: The 2027 Slate, will give a first look at creator-led intellectual property and original vertical entertainment concepts from COL Group and V47 Entertainment. Some 10 projects will be shown to prospective brand partners for possible development and production, letting companies get involved before projects are fully financed or produced. Invited guests will then join dedicated Greenlight Sessions, sitting down with the project teams to talk through commissions, financing, distribution and co-development.

More details on where the event will be held, who will speak and what makes the slate are due out in the coming weeks.

COL Group builds digital entertainment and technology products, including the FlareFlow vertical drama app. Virtue Asia is a strategic and creative agency whose clients include Disney, Google, Spotify, Toyota, Diageo and Shiseido. V47 Entertainment was formed by Virtue Asia and Goldfinch International, the international growth arm of the U.K.’s Goldfinch Group, which has backed more than 200 film and TV projects and put $300 million into production.
