The Dallas Cowboys may have found a real weapon in an unexpected place. Camden Brown didn't enter the NFL with the same attention as some of the more highly touted rookies, signing with Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern. But he didn't need much time to make people notice him.

Brown made his presence felt immediately in his NFL debut, putting together the kind of performance that can make a rookie's path to the roster a little easier. He ran 15 routes and came away with three receptions for 62 yards and two touchdowns.

Brown averaged 4.13 yards per route run, showing just how productive he was with his chances. He didn't need a huge workload to make an impact, either. Three catches were enough to give the Cowboys 62 yards and two trips into the end zone.

For an undrafted rookie trying to carve out a place on an NFL roster, that's the sort of debut that can get people talking, in a good way.

Dallas has competition at wide receiver, which makes Brown's early showing even more notable. The Cowboys will have to evaluate what he can continue to bring as the preseason moves along, but he's already given the team something to think about.

His performance also earned him attention from Pro Football Focus. Brown posted a 91.5 PFF grade in his debut, putting him seventh among all rookies after the first week of the preseason. Gordon McGuinness of PFF ranked him among the best rookies in the NFL so far, a solid nod for an undrafted receiver who had just made his first professional appearance.

The numbers are certainly encouraging, but Brown will need to keep producing as the preseason continues. One strong outing won't guarantee him a major role in Dallas, especially with lots of competition around him. Still, it's hard to ask for a much better first impression.
