UCLA Bruins quarterback Ty Dieffenbach has performed admirably on the field since taking over for the injured Nico Iamaleava.
But it was an exchange with a celebrity off the field that got people talking this past weekend.
The UCLA senior was seen hugging American singer and media personality JoJo Siwa at midfield after the No. 5-ranked Bruins beat Nevada 27-0 on Halloween, a game in which Dieffenbach threw for 178 passing yards and a touchdown while adding another touchdown on the ground.
This got many wondering how these two knew each other, and whether the 21-year-old Dieffenbach and the 23-year-old Siwa might be in some sort of relationship.
Dieffenbach was asked about this postgame and set the record straight on their relationship.
“My mom was her studio teacher when she was younger and I was really young, and our families just got really close. We’re good friends now,” Dieffenbach said of Siwa, per UCLA Wire.
These two have clearly known each other for a while, as a video of them dancing together was posted on Siwa’s TikTok years ago, and has since resurfaced on social media.
Siwa’s fans knew there was nothing romantic to her and Dieffenbach’s relationship, as she is publicly dating TV personality Chris Hughes.
The two were seen kissing at Dancer’s Against Cancer’s Gala Of The Stars in Beverly Hills at the end of October.
Dieffenbach’s focus remains on the football field right now, where his team is an undefeated 8-0.
And that is exactly where UCLA fans want his focus to be.
